Basketball Recap: Gilmer Falls Despite Big Games from Jd Taylor and Keegen Bryant

Gilmer was the 66-57 winner over LaFayette when they last played one another on January 4th, but their luck changed this time around. The Gilmer Bobcats fell 70-59 to the LaFayette Ramblers on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), the Bobcats still had to take the loss.

Gilmer's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Keegen Bryant, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 24 points and three steals, and Jd Taylor, who went 8 for 14 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Taylor's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Preston Mcvey, who posted six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Gilmer and nudges their season record down to 9-11. As for LaFayette, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilmer will venture away from home to face off against Murray County at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Gilmer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Murray County likes a good challenge. As for LaFayette, they will head out on the road to square off against Heritage at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
