Derby took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They put the hurt on the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans with a sharp 18-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Red Raiders in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

Isaac McNeill made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Derby got a big performance out of Nicholas Sheridan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Sheridan a new career-high. Brooklyn Fernandez was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Derby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waterbury Career Academy only posted an OBP of .316.
