Basketball Recap: Jackson Heights Falls Despite Big Games from Nicole Amon and Brynn Shupe

Jackson Heights lost against Jefferson County North back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Jackson Heights Cobras fell 36-29 to the Jefferson County North Chargers. The Cobras have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jackson Heights' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brynn Shupe, who posted 15 points, and Nicole Amon, who had two points and five rebounds. That was a full 51.7% of Jackson Heights' points, marking the third time in a row Shupe has put up more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Jackson Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Jackson Heights' loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Jefferson County North, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.

Jackson Heights wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 37-30 victory against McLouth on the 14th. As for Jefferson County North, they have also already played their next game, a 53-26 defeat against Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool on the 14th.
