The Northeastern Knights will square off against the Triton Central Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Northeastern comes in on three and Triton Central on four.
Northeastern is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They really took it to Shenandoah for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-7 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 22 points or more this season.
Trent Deloney had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 137 yards and one score on only 12 carries, while also picking up 32 receiving yards. He didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Northeastern was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 304 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Triton Central's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Centerville 22-19.
Triton Central's win came from a few key players Northeastern will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zeke Robertson, who picked up 75 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most receiving yards he has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Wilkins, who threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Triton Central's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Northeastern's record is now 9-1. As for Triton Central, their record now sits at an identical 9-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Northeastern has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Triton Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 185.7 rushing yards.
