Portage strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on the Merrillville Pirates with a sharp 14-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kodie Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Dylan Pezel was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those hits were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Krostag, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Portage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrillville only posted an OBP of .158.

Portage's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Merrillville, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Portage will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
