Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Charleston's Fourth in Last Five Outings

After losing to Mansfield the last time they met, Charleston decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Charleston came out on top against Mansfield on Tuesday by a score of 5-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Hannah Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Charleston's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ella Dodson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Dodson also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Charleston has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mansfield, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charleston will square off against Alma at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Airedales will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mansfield, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mansfield Tigers challenge Horatio Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
