Softball Preview: Chickasaw Chieftains vs. Fruitdale Pirates
Chickasaw hasn't had much luck against Fruitdale recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Chickasaw Chieftains will look to defend their home field against the Fruitdale Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Chickasaw is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Two weeks ago, Chickasaw was able to grind out a solid win over Blount, taking the game 6-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fruitdale). They were the clear victor by a 23-5 margin over Choctaw County on Monday. With that victory, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Emma Box looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Kk Crager was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Holland, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Fruitdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Chickasaw's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Fruitdale, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-8.
