Recap: Elkhart Lions vs. South Bend St. Joseph Indians
This season hasn't been kind to the Elkhart Lions, who are still winless after their 13th contest. They had to suffer through a rough 77-50 loss at the hands of South Bend St. Joseph. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while South Bend St. Joseph is ranked 98th).
Elkhart lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Frankie Willis, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Willis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Trinton Harris, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Chase Konieczny, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds for South Bend St. Joseph. Konieczny is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Lee, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Elkhart dropped their record down to 0-13 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for South Bend St. Joseph, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Elkhart won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tippecanoe Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Tippecanoe Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.8 points per game. As for South Bend St. Joseph, they will be playing at home against New Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Prairie focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Wednesday.
