Baseball Recap: Northwest Triumphs

The Northwest Raiders beat the Westminster Christian Academy Crusaders 11-7 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Carson Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dreamon Haywood and Austin Suire did most of the damage at the plate: Haywood went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Suire went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Suire is becoming a predictor of Northwest's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-26 when he doesn't). Gage Berard was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Northwest's record is now 8-26. As for Westminster Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 8-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Northwest has already played their next game (against LaGrange), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Westminster Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
