Softball Recap: Clark Has No Trouble Against Mater Academy East Las Vegas

Clark had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Mater Academy East Las Vegas on Thursday. The Chargers blew past the Knights 19-0. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won eight contests by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Sophia DeMonbrun made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Paola Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Gihana Acosta was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Clark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Academy East Las Vegas only posted an OBP of .200.

Clark is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.

Clark does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they will venture away from home to challenge Sports Leadership & Management at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulls have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season.
