Basketball Recap: South Loup Takes a Loss

South Loup came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 60-25 loss at the hands of the Mullen Broncos. While losing is never fun, South Loup can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Mullen is ranked 103rd).

Mullen was led to victory by Hayley Donohoe and Riley Hegland. Donohoe went 7 of 12 to rack up 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Hegland went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points and three steals. The matchup was Donohoe's third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynne McCully, who posted seven points and six steals.

South Loup dropped their record down to 2-16 with the loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mullen, their record now sits at 15-2.

Coming up, South Loup won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Southern Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mullen, they will face off against Sandhills/Thedford on Tuesday.
