Softball Recap: Southeast Guilford Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Southeast Guilford's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Grimsley Whirlies a 15-0 shutout. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Katie Jenkins-Cowart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Jessica Wilson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kamden Alston, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Southeast Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Southeast Guilford pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grimsley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Southeast Guilford will square off against rival Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Southeast Guilford 3.4, Northern Guilford 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Grimsley is set to challenge their familiar foe Northwest Guilford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
