Football Recap: Clinton Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West, Clinton was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the South-Doyle Cherokees a 24-0 shutout. The Dragons pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cherokees had little chance of recovering from.

Mason Eckerson had a dynamite game, throwing for 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 41 yards and one TD. Clinton's leading receiver Bryson Maddox was Eckerson's top target yet again, picking up 91 receiving yards and one score.

Another reason for the win was Clinton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Gabriel Sanders refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.

Clinton's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for South-Doyle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Clinton and South-Doyle could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Dragons (ranked 166th) will meet Powell (ranked 20th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, South-Doyle will challenge Anderson County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (147 vs. 32).
