Basketball Recap: Calvary Baptist Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Calvary Baptist entered their tilt with Bethel Christian on Thursday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Everything went their way against the Bethel Christian Kings as they made off with a 74-51 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season.

Calvary Baptist found their leader in sophomore Martin Malual, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Malual has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Medard Dabire was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.

Calvary Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Bethel Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chris Lahham, who posted 16 points and six rebounds, and Chidera Onyeka, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alakai Farley, who put up 11 points and three steals.

Calvary Baptist pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Bethel Christian, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Calvary Baptist wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-58 loss against Ayala on the 14th. Bethel Christian will take on Norton Science & Language Academy in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethel Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.
