Softball Recap: Taconic Thunder vs. Greenfield Green Wave
Taconic had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Greenfield Green Wave by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Green Wave this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 two weeks ago.
Taconic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Stodden, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Ashlyn Houghtling also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Greenfield, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.
On Greenfield's side, MacKenzie Paulin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. Paulin has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Grace Laurie, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Lemay, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Taconic will square off against rival Wahconah Regional at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Greenfield is set to challenge their familiar foe Turners Falls at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
