Basketball Recap: Mission Viejo Comes Up Short

Mission Viejo lost against San Clemente back in January of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mission Viejo Diablos had to suffer through a 80-49 loss at the hands of the San Clemente Tritons. The Diablos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-25.

Despite the loss, Mission Viejo still got an impressive performance from Damian Navarro, who posted 25 points. That was a full 51% of Mission Viejo's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was JD Hill, who had six points.

It was another big night for Christian Fernandez, who went 7 of 12 en route to 26 points for San Clemente. Fernandez's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Hansen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Mission Viejo has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for San Clemente, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Mission Viejo will welcome Trabuco Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. San Clemente and Los Alamitos will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st.
