Football Recap: Galena Park Piles Up the Points Against Sharpstown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Galena Park). They blew past the Sharpstown Apollos, posting a 63-26 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won three contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Cary Clay had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 305 yards and seven TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Those seven rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Darick Runnels, who rushed for 78 yards and one score on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Galena Park was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 494 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 291 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups.

Galena Park has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.0 points over those games. As for Sharpstown, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Galena Park and Sharpstown will both be playing Westbury the next time they take the field. The Apollos will host the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Yellowjackets will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on November 1.
