Baseball Game Preview: St. Rose Purple Roses vs. Toms River North Mariners

For the second straight game, St. Rose will face off against Toms River North. The Purple Roses will head out to square off against the Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Rose has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 15.

Toms River North hit St. Rose with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Purple Roses lost 9-1 to the Mariners.

For Toms River North's part, Steven Nuber looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Toms River North let Jason Verderrosa and Ian St. Luce run wild. Verderrosa went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while St. Luce went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Verderrosa a new career-high. Vin Vergona also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Toms River North is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Rose, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
