Softball Recap: Clearfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Roy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clearfield). They were the clear victors by a 29-5 margin over the Roy Royals on Tuesday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

Jenna Lloyd was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skylar Davis, who went 3-for-4 with eight RBI, two triples, and two runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Leonhardt, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Clearfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .738. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Clearfield and bumps their season record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Roy, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clearfield will venture away from home to square off against West Field at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Roy, they will head out to take on Sky View at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
