Softball Recap: Spokane Triumphs

While Spokane didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Seymour Tigers on Monday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Owls have posted since April 8, 2025.

Callie Terrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Karsyn Schrock, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Sarah Essick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Spokane is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Seymour, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spokane will face off against Verona at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Owls will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Seymour, they will host Fordland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
