Basketball Recap: Pine View Panthers vs. Desert Hills Thunder
Pine View lost to Desert Hills back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Pine View Panthers snuck past the Desert Hills Thunder with a 56-52 victory.
Pine View was led to victory by Caleb Schmitt and Cooper Ranson. Schmitt posted 16 points in addition to six assists and five boards, while Ranson went 6 for 10 en route to 18 points. Ranson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Stratton Williams also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Pine View was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Desert Hills only posted six assists.
Loss or not, Desert Hills got some senior leadership from Ben Chase and Mason Rasmussen. Chase went 6 of 11 on his way to 21 points, while Rasmussen put up 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Chase has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Openshaw, who had seven points.
Pine View is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Desert Hills, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine View will challenge Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. As for Desert Hills, they will square off against Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedar has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
