Ashley hasn't had much luck against Hoggard recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Screaming Eagle will host the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
On Friday, Ashley didn't have quite enough to beat West Brunswick and fell 24-21.
Although Ashley took the loss, they still got scores from Bryson Lovelace, Julian Morrison, and Jahbari Woodhouse.
While Ashley came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for West Brunswick: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 44.4%. The team can thank Tyson Hammonds for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ashley hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.33 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Ashley's defense didn't let Josiah Borton, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Adrian Gaines and Oliver Hartzler, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Gaines was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making 17 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Hoggard was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 34-28 to North Brunswick. The Vikings gained 218 more yards on the day, but it was the Scorpions that made the best use of them.
Ashley will need to focus on slowing down David Hunter, one of several Hoggard players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Another player making a difference was Matthew Boring, who threw for 246 yards and one TD while completing 74.1% of his passes.
Having lost for the first time this season, Hoggard fell to 8-1. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Ashley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hoggard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ashley came up short against Hoggard when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 35-27. Can the Screaming Eagle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
