Volleyball Recap: Emporia Falls Despite Big Games from Molly Williams and Kaylee Dewitt

It was a good run, but Emporia unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell 2-0 to the Manhattan Indians. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

While Emporia was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-21.

Kaylee DeWitt and Molly Williams certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. DeWitt had five kills and three digs, while Williams had six digs and one assist.

Janie Hilgers was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 13 digs and two assists.

Emporia's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-8. As for Manhattan, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-4.

Coincidentally, Emporia and Manhattan will both be playing Hayden the next time they take the court. The Indians will head out to face the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Spartans will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
