Basketball Game Preview: Glenwood Springs Demons vs. Coal Ridge Titans

The Glenwood Springs Demons will take on the Coal Ridge Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Glenwood Springs is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging an 83-45 victory over Rifle. The win was familiar territory for the Demons who have now won three contests in a row.

Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Coal Ridge, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Grand Valley by a score of 65-57 on Tuesday. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Cardinals are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Glenwood Springs better keep an eye on Ben Simons. He was instrumental in Coal Ridge's win, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Simons a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Gamez, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Coal Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Glenwood Springs' victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Coal Ridge, they have also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Glenwood Springs strolled past Coal Ridge in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 49-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Glenwood Springs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
