Softball Recap: Riverbank Bruins vs. Summerville Bears

Riverbank had lost ten straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-25-1 to make it 11. They came up short against the Summerville Bears, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-11 loss back in April.

Maya Guzman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and ten unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Summerville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Summerville's side, the result came thanks to Madelyn Nikiforuk's shutout, as she gave up just two hits.

At the plate, McKenzie Munsel was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Delia Petersen was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.
