Cabrillo is 8-2 against Orcutt Academy since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Conquistadores will welcome the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Cabrillo took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Righetti with a sharp 3-0 win. The Conquistadores have beaten the Warriors the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.
Cabrillo was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-18, 25-16.
Cabrillo relied on the efforts of Taylor Savella, who had four aces and three digs, and Marie Terrones, who had 11 digs.
They weren't the only good servers: Cabrillo was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. They are 6-2 when they serve at least ten aces.
Meanwhile, Orcutt Academy played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Santa Maria. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since August 26th (when they won 3-0).
Orcutt Academy walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-15.
Orcutt Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Cabrillo, their victory bumped their record up to 13-14-1.
Cabrillo beat Orcutt Academy 3-1 in their previous meeting back in October of 2023. Do the Conquistadores have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
