Softball Recap: Riverbank Bruins vs. Linden Lions

Riverbank had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-23-1 to make it 17. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Linden Lions. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-4 loss back in April.

Maya Guzman put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Guzman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Guzman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Briseida Felix, who went 1-for-4 with one double. That double was Felix's first of the season.

As for Linden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

On Linden's side, they got a great performance from Cambel Dunn as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. Dunn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Millee Holguin was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Looking ahead, Riverbank will square off against Bret Harte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins are facing the Bullfrogs at the right time seeing as the Bullfrogs are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Linden, they will challenge Calaveras at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
