Baseball Recap: Clermont Northeastern Takes a Loss

Clermont Northeastern extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They came up short against the Hillsboro Indians, falling 7-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Rockets haven't been shut out since back in April.

Clermont Northeastern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowdy Etling, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Hillsboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs.

On Hillsboro's side, Luke Holland made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Holland a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Brown, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

Clermont Northeastern and Hillsboro could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Rockets will take on Batavia at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (565 vs. 97). Meanwhile, Hillsboro (ranked 482nd) will meet Circleville (ranked 72nd) at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
