Basketball Game Preview: Jay Mustangs vs. Winn Mavericks

The Jay Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Winn Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Winn took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Jay, who comes in off a win.

Jay took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They managed a 57-53 victory over Harlandale. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Indians are ranked 629th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Winn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They took a hard 54-36 fall against Southwest.

Jay pushed their record up to 23-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Winn, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-27.

Everything came up roses for Jay against Winn in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured an 85-33 victory. In that match, Jay amassed a halftime lead of 44-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
