Maleigh Colvin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Brynlee Meister and Tylee Buchert did most of the damage at the plate: Meister scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Buchert got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Meister has posted since back in March of 2024. Sophia Dominguez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Wickenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .781. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Prep West only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Kingman Academy fell victim to River Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 14-0 to the Dust Devils. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.
Kingman Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-2-1. As for Wickenburg, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wickenburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Kingman Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .587. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wickenburg's way against Kingman Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Wickenburg made off with a 17-5 victory. Does Wickenburg have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kingman Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
