Pershing County extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-16 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Battle Mountain Longhorns. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, with their most recent loss being a 13-5 defeat on Saturday.

Trenton Rhodes was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Rhodes was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Jacob Henderson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ayden Montes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
As for Battle Mountain, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
Like Pershing County, Battle Mountain also got a great game from a two-way player: Keegan Peasnall. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Peasnall a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Battle Mountain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Jacob Perrone was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Liam Bundrock was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pershing County will take on rival Sierra Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Battle Mountain is set to square off against their familiar foe Yerington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
