Preview: Stephens County Indians vs. Hebron Christian Academy Lions
Two dominant backs in Javin Gordon and Devon Caldwell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Stephens County Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Hebron Christian Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Stephens County will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Friday, it was close, but Stephens County sidestepped Oconee County for a 17-14 win. Given Stephens County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Oconee County is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The critical scores for Stephens County came from Davon Swinton and Aidan Butts.
Meanwhile, Hebron Christian Academy owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hart County 27-0 on the road. Considering Hebron Christian Academy has won three matchups by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Stephens County's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Franklin County and 2-8 Dawson County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38% over those games). As for Hebron Christian Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4.
Stephens County came up short against Hebron Christian Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 25-21. Can Stephens County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
