Volleyball Game Preview: Auburn Bulldogs vs. Gross Catholic Cougars

The Auburn Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Gross Catholic Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Auburn has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Gross Catholic will arrive with four straight wins.

On Monday, Auburn came up short against Freeman and fell 3-1.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 19-25, 25-15, 25-13.

Auburn's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emma Hyde, who had 20 assists and six digs, and Nora Jacobitz, who had four digs and three aces. Hyde is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Gross Catholic took on Duchesne on Tuesday. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 2-1.

Gross Catholic had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-23, 25-21.

Auburn's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Gross Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.

Auburn took their win against Gross Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
