Baseball Game Preview: St. Bonaventure Seraphs vs. Santa Barbara Dons

The St. Bonaventure Seraphs are taking a road trip to take on the Santa Barbara Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Bonaventure's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Santa Barbara's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Monday just wasn't the day for St. Bonaventure's offense. They fell just short of Ventura by a score of 1-0 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Seraphs in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.

Aaron Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with an 8-1 win.

Santa Barbara's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for St. Bonaventure, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

St. Bonaventure came up short against Santa Barbara in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Seraphs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
