Manheim Township is a perfect 10-0 against J.P. McCaskey since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Blue Streaks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Tornado at 7:00 p.m. Manheim Township is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Manheim Township after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mechanicsburg. The Blue Streaks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four match, J.P. McCaskey brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Reading a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Red Tornado as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Aleximar Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, J.P. McCaskey let Alayah Gartman and Lleana Martinez run wild. Gartman went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Martinez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Martinez has posted since back in March. Sanya Mumma was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.
J.P. McCaskey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reading only posted an OBP of .188.
J.P. McCaskey's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Manheim Township, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manheim Township hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like J.P. McCaskey struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manheim Township took their win against J.P. McCaskey when the teams last played on April 9th by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Blue Streaks repeat their success, or do the Red Tornado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
