Baseball Recap: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Comes Up Short

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it six. They lost 10-3 to the Ballston Spa Scotties. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Scotties when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake got a good showing from Mason McDonald, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. McDonald has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Charlie Venditti was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Ricky Nicklas was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

As for Ballston Spa, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 6-0. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

On Ballston Spa's side, Adam Nagengast looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Doug Chamberlain and James Haughton did most of the damage at the plate: Chamberlain went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Haughton went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That home run was Chamberlain's first of the season. Another player making a difference was David Wallace Jr., who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

While Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
