Basketball Recap: Cherish Hunt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greenbrier over Laney

Greenbrier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Laney Wildcats. If the Wolfpack were looking for revenge after losing 59-50 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in November of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greenbrier's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cherish Hunt, who posted 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Hunt is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jayla Ayler, who scored nine points in addition to seven boards and seven steals.

Greenbrier now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Laney, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Greenbrier has already played their next matchup, a 39-36 loss against South Effingham on the 5th. Laney has also already played their next contest (against Warren County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
