Baseball Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. Rains Wildcats
Commerce had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-17-1 to make it 13. They lost 10-0 to the Rains Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-0 on Tuesday.
Commerce saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Markedon Mapps, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple. That triple was Mapps' first of the season.
As for Rains, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games.
On Rains' side, the result came thanks to Gage Cook's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Cook has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hunter Chandler was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Major Wallace was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
