It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mohawk had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Ayersville Pilots 7-1. Considering the Warriors have won 16 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Gottfried made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gottfried was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mallory Brickner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Emily Brickner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Mohawk has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. As for Ayersville, they moved to 18-5 with that defeat, which also ended their 17-game winning streak.
Coming up, Mohawk will face off against Monroeville at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 2.4, the Eagles 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Ayersville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
