Preview: Wheatmore Warriors vs. Southwestern Randolph Cougars

Wheatmore has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Southwestern Randolph Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wheatmore focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.

Wheatmore struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Eastern Randolph had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wheatmore was dealt a 87-51 loss at the hands of Eastern Randolph. While losing is never fun, Wheatmore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 592nd, while Eastern Randolph is ranked 261st).

Despite the loss, Wheatmore had strong showings from Finley Bryant, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Parker Kines, who scored nine points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bryant has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Collin Dodd, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Southwestern Randolph pushed their score all the way to 70 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 80-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Randolph. Southwestern Randolph has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wheatmore dropped their record down to 1-20 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Southwestern Randolph, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Wheatmore came up short against Southwestern Randolph when the teams last played back in January, falling 61-48. Can Wheatmore avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
