Basketball Recap: Cotulla's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Lutheran wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Cotulla, they should've done a better job of containing Rene Barrera. The Cowboys took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging an 81-46 win over the Mustangs with plenty of help from Barrera, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times he's played.

Another player making a difference was Drayden Serna, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 48.1% field goal percentage.

The victory made it two in a row for Cotulla and bumps their season record up to 3-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.5 points over those games. As for Lutheran, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Cotulla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 87-48 defeat against St. Paul on the 12th. Lutheran will take on The Christian School at Castle Hills in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
