Softball Game Preview: Bath County Wildcats vs. Rowan County Vikings

The Bath County Wildcats will take on the Rowan County Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Bath County sitting on five straight wins and Rowan County on 14.

Bath County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Morgan County get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Wildcats with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Rowan County made easy work of Mason County on Monday and carried off an 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kassi Perkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Lauryn Eastham was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Diamond Wills, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rowan County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Rowan County pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bath County, their record is now 11-5.

Bath County couldn't quite finish off Rowan County when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 8-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
