Basketball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. North Surry Greyhounds

Surry Central is on a six-game streak of home wins, while North Surry is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Surry Central Golden Eagles will welcome the North Surry Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Surry Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Surry Central took on Forbush last Thursday. Surry Central lost 69-46 to Forbush. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost nine in a row.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jaycee Dalton, who posted ten points and four steals. She has been hot, having posted four or more steals the last five times she's played. Layla Wall was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Surry Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, North Surry earned a 51-43 victory over West Wilkes last Thursday. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Surry Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for North Surry, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.

Surry Central came up short against North Surry when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 53-43. Can Surry Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
