Basketball Recap: 21st Century Charter Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

There's no place like home for 21st Century Charter, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 57-48 win over the Marquette Catholic Blazers on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead 21st Century Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacolby Donaldson, who went 9 for 18 en route to 21 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Donaldson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Terrence Hayes, who posted 13 points along with six boards and four steals.

21st Century Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marquette Catholic only racked up eight assists.

Marquette Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Dobre, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Dobre has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Mays, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

21st Century Charter's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.4 points. As for Marquette Catholic, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. 21st Century Charter will head out to take on Lake Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season. As for Marquette Catholic, they are taking a road trip to challenge Morgan Township at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marquette Catholic also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.5 points per game.
