Soccer Game Preview: South Gate vs. South East

The South Gate Rams will venture away from home to take on the South East Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South Gate will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

If South East heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when South Gate took over last week. South Gate put the hurt on Roosevelt with a sharp 4-1 victory on Monday. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Rough Riders are ranked 763rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, South East was not quite South Gate's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-2.

FelipeDamian Bernal-Ferreira and Nathan Castrejon scored both of South East's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 27 goals.

South Gate pushed their record up to 15-5-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 26 goals over those ten games. As for South East, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1-1 and their overall record down to 19-5-1.

South Gate skirted past South East 3-2 in their previous matchup on Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Gate since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
