Baseball Recap: Freedom Area Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ellwood City, Freedom Area was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Fort Cherry Rangers 16-15. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 9-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Tommy Ward, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Nick Fessler, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his six plate appearances.

The win got Freedom Area back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Freedom Area will head out on the road to face off against Northgate at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fort Cherry, they will welcome South Side at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
