Basketball Game Preview: Northampton County Jaguars vs. Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars

Northampton County is 10-0 against Rocky Mount Prep since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Northampton County Jaguars will be playing at home against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Northampton County is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since December 27, 2024 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 70-50 margin over Weldon. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Chargers are ranked 580th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jiyoun Williams was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points along with six assists and four steals. That's the most assists he has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Meki Ransome, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 12 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep came up short against North Edgecombe on Friday and fell 73-60.

Northampton County pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.2 points per game. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Northampton County was able to grind out a solid victory over Rocky Mount Prep in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 76-64. Will Northampton County repeat their success, or does Rocky Mount Prep have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
