Basketball Recap: Kelsi Maier's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoisington over Hillsboro

After flying high against Nickerson last Friday, Hoisington came back down to earth. The Hoisington Cardinals took a hard 43-28 fall against the Hillsboro Trojans on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now lost eight in a row.

Hoisington lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kelsi Maier, who posted eight points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tianna Lutters, who scored eight points.

Even though they lost, Hoisington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Hoisington's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Hillsboro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoisington will venture away from home to challenge Larned at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hillsboro, they are taking a road trip to square off against Nickerson on Friday.
