Baseball Recap: Mendez Takes a Loss

Mendez had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 6-11-1 to make it four. They fell just short of the Hollywood Sheiks by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Jaguars were not able to get on the board.

Jacob Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

As for Hollywood, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-6. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

On Hollywood's side, the result came thanks to Blake Jenkins's shutout, as he gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, Jenkins is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Denis Kim, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mendez beat Hollywood by a score of 10-6 later that day.
