Basketball Recap: Keaton Lawson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbus East over Jeffersonville

If Columbus East was feeling good fresh off their 63-40 takedown of Scottsburg last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Columbus East Olympians fell just short of the Jeffersonville Red Devils by a score of 55-53 on Saturday. The Olympians were up 21-4 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Several Olympians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keaton Lawson, who went 6 of 11 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Coriden, who posted 14 points.

Jeffersonville had a senior duo take command as PJ Douglas went 8 for 12 on his way to 21 points and Tre Singleton went 7 of 8 en route to 18 points and seven boards. With that strong performance, Douglas is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Michael Cooper was another key player, putting up ten points.

Columbus East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season. As for Jeffersonville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Columbus East will be playing at home against East Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbus East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. As for Jeffersonville, they will head out to square off against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jeffersonville also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 63.4 points per game.
